Debutante, the first album by Chevy 6
First session Thursday, January 31, 1980
Shamblin Sound Productions, Tuscaloosa
Mike Shamblin produced the album at his studio on Juanita Drive in Alberta City. Concept and design by Ben Burford. The cover became infamous for the arresting graphic, and the debate that continues to this day: is that some girl’s cleavage or is it the singer’s butt?
The album was enormously popular on college campuses, and for a good while, one couldn’t drive down sorority row at many of the Southern universities without hearing Deburante blaring from the windows. Very satisyfing. And very freaky.
2 Good 2 Be True, the second album by Chevy 6
WINTER, 1988-1989 – Chevy 6 releases their second Mike Shamblin-produced album, 2 Good 2 Be True on CD and cassette, but not vinyl. The band was the first in Birmingham to self-produce a CD, and one of the first, if not the first in the state. The disc was manufactured at the JVC plant in Tuscaloosa. 2 Good 2 Be True contained three original songs penned by Ben Burford. The cover art was by Mark Martin, internationally celebrated cartoonist.
